The «Icons & Ions» series draws upon ancient icons—such as the cross, the mandala, or basic geometric shapes—to explore their aesthetic relationship with the movement of energy (such as toroidal flow). The paintings feature a sense of volume created through a rigorous process involving over 200 layers of superimposed glazes; this technique causes the fabric to shed its inherent fragility and take on a rigidity visually akin to metal or wood.
The artist chooses to work with fabric due to its strong association with the feminine and her own obsession with transforming material structures. The resulting pieces defy viewer expectations by presenting a textile that has lost its conventional aesthetic appearance and gained rigidity, yet without sacrificing the sense of lightness characteristic of canvas.
La serie «Icons & Ions» se basa en iconos ancestrales como la cruz, la mandala o formas geométricas básicas para expolorar su relación estética con el movimiento de la energía, por ejemplo la toroidal, en pinturas con un volumen generado mediante un riguroso proceso de más de 200 capas de veladuras superpuestas, tras el que el tejido pierde su fragilidad y adquiere una rigidez visualmente similar a la del metal o la madera.
La autora elige aferrarse a la tela por su fuerte relación con lo femenino y por una obsesión propia con transformar la estructura de los materiales, consiguiendo piezas que desafían las expectativas del espectador al presentar un textil que ha perdido su típica apariencia estética adquiriendo rigidez sin perder, sin embargo, la sensación de ligereza propia del lienzo.
