Visual artist María Viñas received her degree in Fine arts from San Carlos University in Valencia (2000) with a specialization in painting , multimedia & audiovisual followed by a Masters degree from Barcelona´s Eina School ( 2003).

After receiving several national and international art awards from his student days so far ( BANCAIXA, ALDEASA, CAJA MADRID, LUCKY STRICKE BAR HONDA…) Viñas is currently living in Madrid where she combines her art work with creative direction, styling and teaching at the European Institute of Design.

María Viñas developed a painting technique overlapping glazes until achieving a rigid canvas which is currently being taught by professor J. Perdiguero at SUNY Oswego in New York.

Layering glazes is a recurring theme in the work, used to create a vibration of color that—while not visible to the naked eye—is interpreted by the viewer as a color of exceptional radiance and depth.

Furthermore, in his constant quest to explore the possibilities of the canvas and transmute  its appearance, she developed a technique that makes the canvas flexible without the paint cracking. This technique can be seen in her Flex series.

«I seek to answer questions that push the limits of what’s possible through technical processes that are almost alchemical, born from hard work and experimentation in the studio. For example, can fabric become a rigid support without the paint cracking and falling off? , Can a canvas become flexible without the top layer of paint breaking?.

I strive to do everything that most painters, who understand the nature of canvas and paint, consider impossible.»

As a restless artist, her projects often reveal a desire to hybridize the pictorial method with that of other creative or scientific disciplines.

Besides museums like, IVAM, and OBSERVATORI in Valencia; the Maritime Museum in Barcelona; Casa de Juntas del Retiro, Matadero in Madrid, The Parliament of Galicia in Santiago de Compostela; and galleries including Biondetta, Twin Gallery, and Estandarte in Madrid, as well as East Pleasant and NoHo in New York,  art fairs such as Frieze London, Spectrum Miami, and Affordable Art Fair; her artistic work has been published in media such as; TV5, CUATRO, TVE 1, TVE 2, CANAL +, Onda Cero, Cadena Ser, EL PAÍS, EL MUNDO, ABC, EL CULTURAL, QUE, 20 MINUTOS, LÁPIZ, LA VOZ DE GALICIA, LA VANGUARDIA, EL PERIÓDICO DE CATALUÑA, TENDENCIAS, NEO 2, ELLE, CHIC o IO DONNA.

Her career includes projects outside the usual art circuit, such as designing the bodywork for the Formula 1 LUCKY STRIKE BAR HONDA racing car and the appearance of her artworks in Julio Medem’s feature film Caótica Ana.

La artista plástica María Viñas se licenció en Bellas Artes por la Universidad de San Carlos de Valencia (2000) con especialización en pintura, multimedia y audiovisual.  Posteriormente, obtuvo un máster en la Escuela Eina de Barcelona (2003).

Recibe varios premios artísticos nacionales e internacionales desde su etapa de estudiante hasta ahora (BANCAIXA, ALDEASA, CAJA MADRID, LUCKY STRICKE BAR HONDA…).

Viñas reside actualmente en Madrid, donde compagina su trabajo artístico con la dirección creativa, el estilismo y la docencia en el Instituto Europeo de Diseño.

Ha desarrollado una técnica de rigidación del lienzo a través de la superposición de veladuras que actualmente es impartida (respetando su autoría) por el profesor J. Perdiguero en la Universidad Estatal de Nueva York (SUNY Oswego).

La superposición de veladuras es una constante en su obra, ya que también la utiliza para lograr una vibración del color que no es perceptible a simple vista pero que el ojo interpreta como un color con alto brillo y profundidad.

En su constante búsqueda por explorar las posibilidades del lienzo y transmutar su apariencia, desarrolla otra técnica que vuelve la tela ( algodón, lino) flexible sin que la pintura se agriete. Esta técnica se puede apreciar en su serie Flex.

Como artista inquieta, en sus proyectos a menudo muestra un deseo por hibridar el método pictórico con el de otras disciplinas creativas o científicas.

Su obra artística ha sido reseñada en medios como TV5, CUATRO, TVE 1, TVE 2, CANAL +, Onda Cero, Cadena Ser, EL PAÍS, EL MUNDO, ABC, EL CULTURAL, QUÉ!, 20 MINUTOS, LÁPIZ, LA VOZ DE GALICIA, LA VANGUARDIA, EL PERIÓDICO DE CATALUÑA, TENDENCIAS, NEO 2, ELLE, CHIC o IO DONNA.

Su trayectoria incluye proyectos fuera del circuito artístico habitual, como el diseño de la carrocería para el monoplaza de Fórmula 1 LUCKY STRIKE BAR HONDA y la aparición de sus obras en el largometraje Caótica Ana, de Julio Medem.
